The Chamber of Commerce has made what a spokesman called a "significant" ad buy statewide targeting Rep. Joe Sestak in the Senate campaign. Echoing a common theme throughout the nation -- and in Western Pennsylvania -- the Chamber links Sestak to the unpopular House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and slams him for votes for the cap-and-trade climate bill and the stimulus.

For those keeping score at home, the ad would have been legal before the much-discussed Citizens United Supreme Court decision, as it only tells viewers to call Sestak to express their displeasure over his votes. Though the fact that the ad is not just running in his district gives folks a little hint that it might be targeted at the Senate race.

It's notable that we're still nearly four months from Election Day and both Pat Toomey and an allied outside group are putting up television ads. Given that Sestak spent all his bankroll to take down Arlen Specter while Toomey sat on a considerable sum -- and the fact that the Chamber has reportedly vowed to spend an astonishing $75 million this election cycle -- the money gap is something to watch here.
