In another show of GOP momentum, Republican challengers to two Western Pa Democrats outraised* the incumbents over the past two weeks.

According to 48-hour contribution notices filed through yesterday with the FEC, 3rd District Republican Mike Kelly raised an extra $87,000 through yesterday, to incumbent Kathy Dahlkemper's $17,000. ($3,500 of Kelly's funds came from PACs for tea party faves Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.)

In the 4th District race, Republican Keith Rothfus raised a new $126,000 to incumbent Jason Altmire's $111,000. Here's the asterisk -- Rothfus got $40K of his money from a self-loan. At the same time almost half of Altmire's money came in one fell swoop in a report issued yesterday, leaning on big gifts from such sources as Consol Energy's PAC and PNC Bank CEO Jim Rohr.

The pattern does not hold for the incumbents in Districts 12 and 18, Democrat Mark Critz and Republican Tim Murphy respectively.

Critz has raised $150,000 the past two weeks to challenger Tim Burns's $64,000*. Murphy has raised $49,000 to zip for Democrat Dan Connolly.

* Burns had a big cash advantage of more than $200K early in the month.
