That John Raese ad we said was coming early this week is out now, and boy is it tough. It hits his WVa Senate opponent Joe Manchin for a bill he championed to force utility companies to get 25% of their electricity from alternative energy resources by 2025, but more importantly tries to tie the legislation to Barack Obama.

As Manchin has noted in reply, coal companies supported the bill, but Raese does the spot from what appears to be an open pit mine, and calls the measure "Obama's cap-and-trade bill, West Virginia style."

"Joe Manchin has thrown us under the bus, so imagine the damage he'll do in Washington with his friend, Barack Obama," Raese says in the ad.

The Obama remark is key -- as we've noted many times, Gov. Manchin is very popular in the state, but Obama is less popular in West Virginia than in any state east of the Mississippi.

PS: Here's the Daily Mail on some radio ads up in the state.
