This just in.  George Matta loves his mother.  And, acording to his ace campaign manager Johnna Pro, he would never say anything bad about anyone’s mother.  So that’s why the controller candidate is irate about a radio ad for his opponent, Chelsa Wagner, that claims that he attacked her on Mothers Day for missing votes in the Legislature.   The Matta campaign has criticized the legislator for missing votes, but never, according to Ms. Pro, tied that to the fact that Ms. Wagner is a new mother.

The Wagner campaign did not return a call seeking comment on their position on voting, or motherhood, or whatever.  Early Returns has warm regard for all of the mothers out there and we assume that Valerie McDonald Roberts, the third candiate in the Democratic race, shares our enlightend view on all issues maternal.  You can check out the Matta press release after the jump.

order discount viagraIn an effort to cover-up her dismal two-year voting record, State Representative Chelsa Wagner is attacking one of her opponents in a radio commercial that is not only false, it’s an insult to working mothers everywhere.

“Over the course of the last two-year legislative session, Miss Wagner missed 223 votes. She missed more votes than any state legislator from Allegheny County. She missed more votes than almost any other legislator from Pennsylvania with the exception of four colleagues, two of whom went to war,” said George Matta, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for Allegheny County Controller.

“Miss Wagner contends her absenteeism is because of her pregnancy but at the same time, she claims to have gone back to work within days of having her child, Matta said. “I think voters are smart enough to evaluate Miss Wagner’s own words.”

In the current legislative session, which began less than five months ago in Harrisburg, Miss Wagner’s record of missed votes is even worse.

“No matter how you look at the numbers, she simply doesn’t do the job she was elected to do,” Matta said.  order discount viagra

In the radio ad, Miss Wagner accuses Mr. Matta of criticising her on Mother’s Day for being a mother.  Mr. Matta never questioned Miss Wagner’s motherhood on Mother’s Day or any other day for that matter.  order discount viagra

“Miss Wagner bought ads to accuse me of attacking her on Mother’s Day for being a mother. That’s not only blatantly false, it’s ridiculous,” Matta said.

In fact, Mr. Matta did not spend Mother’s Day on the campaign trail. He honored his own mother and wife, both of whom worked while raising their families. They attended Mass, went to breakfast, and, later, Mr. Matta hosted and cooked dinner for all of the women in his family.

“My mother and my wife both worked while having children and raising families. I know how difficult it is to balance those challenges. I have great respect for all women, and I have proven that in my own business, in the companies I’ve worked for, and as a city controller, mayor and clerk of courts.”

Matta served two terms as Allegheny County’s Clerk of Courts. Prior to that he, he was elected City Controller in Duquesne and then Mayor.

Under Matta’s leadership, Duquesne balanced its budget for the first time in two decades; solved its pension crisis; transformed its emergency operations; and began the redevelopment of a former mill property.

Matta subsequently was elected to two terms as Clerk of the Allegheny County Courts system where he created a collections department so tens of millions of dollars in court fines, costs and restitution payments could be shared by crime victims and the county’s general fund.  During his tenure with the courts, Matta established performance evaluations for employees; modernized the communication systems and balanced the budget.

In addition to his elected positions, Matta served as a board member of the Allegheny County Pension Fund and the Regional Industrial Development Corporation.

Matta is a senior manager with the Rivers Casino, Allegheny County’s newest employer. In his role as Director of Business Development and Community Relations, he sits on the casino’s diversity team; develops player incentive programs; and works with local businesses to find ways in which they can do business with The Rivers.

Matta owned and operated Matta Florists, a successful small business which he grew from one to four stores. In the private sector he held positions with PPG and Mellon Bank, both Fortune 500 companies.

Matta graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree from St. Francis University in Industrial Relations and Business Management.

Matta and his wife, Cathy, a schoolteacher, live in White Oak. They have two adult children, Bradley, an attorney, and Brittany, a University of Pittsburgh graduate.
